Launch Summary
We’ve improved the raise hand feature in Meet to make it easier to identify these instances and respond. Specifically, you will notice the following changes:
- An updated and improved visual icon and video tile animation
- Tiles of people with raised hands may be moved to increase their visibility in the video grid
- An audio notification to all participants the first time a hand is raised
- A clickable notification that shows the number of hands raised and links to an ordered row of all participants with raised hands
- The participant’s hand will be lowered automatically after he or she speaks
New and improved icon visual, and an animation when a user raises their hand
How to get started
- Administrators: This feature will be enabled by default. There is no administrator control for this feature.
- End Users: This feature will be enabled by default. There is no configuration setting for end users regarding this feature. Visit the Help Center to learn more about the raise hand feature in Google Meet .
Throwing rhythm
- Rapid Release Domains: Gradual release (possibly 15+ days for feature visibility) a starting June 16, 2021.
- Scheduled release domains: Phased release (possibly 15+ days for feature visibility) a starting June 30, 2021.
Availability
- Available in meetings hosted by users with Workspace Essentials, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Fundamentals, Education Plus, Nonprofits, as well as G Suite Business customers
- Not available in meetings hosted by Google Workspace Business Starter users or G Suite Basic customers. It is not available to users with personal Google Accounts.
