Google Chat will automatically suggest group chats based on Google Calendar

Launch Summary

We previously announced that Google Chat will automatically suggest 1:1 chats based on Google Calendar. You will now also receive group chat suggestions when you meet with many people. We hope that expanding this feature will allow you to share information and files, and make it easier to communicate in Calendar meetings and Chat.

As with 1:1 chat suggestions, you’ll see the shortcut to the suggested conversation at the top of the “Chat” section in Google Chat and “Chat in Gmail” on mobile devices and the web. The chat will be visible ten minutes before the 1:1 meeting and ten minutes after the meeting ends.

How to get started

  • Administrators: This feature will be ON by default; There is no administrator control for this feature.
  • End Users: There is no configuration setting for end users for this feature. Visit the Help Center for more information to send a chat message to a person or a group.

  • It is available to all Google Workspace customers, as well as G Suite Basic and Business customers.
