With the school year approaching (or already some underway), Google Meet is adding a couple of new features for students and educators. At its back-to-school event, Google today provided a Meet Education Roadmap for upcoming moderation tools and other features aimed at boosting interactivity amid distance learning. At the end This month, moderators will have the ability to prevent previously kicked participants, as well as those who were denied entry twice, from rejoining a meeting. September will see the following capabilities:

  • End the video call for all participants when the class ends.
  • Manage opt-in requests with ease by accepting or rejecting them in bulk.
  • Disable in-meeting chat and set restrictions on who can show up during a meeting.
  • Lock meetings until the moderator joins.
  • Next month, Google will also introduce a 7×7 grid that supports 49 students simultaneously. This will be joined by a collaborative whiteboard, thanks to the integration with Jamboard.

New Meet features

In October, both teachers and students can blur or replace their backgrounds. To prevent misuse, administrators can disable custom wallpapers entirely. G Suite Enterprise for Education will also add:

  • Attendance Tracking to view and track students who attended the virtual class (G Suite Enterprise for Education).
  • Breakout rooms so educators can break classes into simultaneous small group discussions (G Suite Enterprise for Education).

The final set of education-focused Google Meet releases are scheduled for “later this year.”

  • Raise your hand to help you identify students who may need help or have a question.
  • Question and answer features to give students a way to ask questions without interrupting the flow of the lesson or class discussion, and conduct polls for students to share their voice (G Suite Enterprise for Education).< /li>
  • Temporary recordings allow lessons to be viewed for up to 21 days within a domain.

These Meet features will also make their way to regular accounts and other business accounts.
