Launch Summary
In March 2021, We are announcing several improvements to the web version of Google Chat (i.e. chat.google.com) and Chat Progressive Web App (AWP). At that time, the changes were only released for domains that had the Gmail service activated.
Starting June 30, 2021, we will also release the changes for domains that have the Gmail service disabled. The new interface offers users a consistent and predictable chat experience across the Gmail Chat and Standalone Chat platforms. It also includes new integrations that help with productivity; see original announcement for more information .
How to get started
- Administrators: There is no administrator control for this feature.
- End users: These changes will be automatically implemented on chat.google.com and the progressive Chat web app.
Throwing rhythm
- Rapid and scheduled release domains: Extended release (possibly more than 15 days for feature visibility ) starting June 30, 2021
Availability
- Available to Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Fundamentals, Education Plus, Frontline and Nonprofits customers, as well as G Suite Basic and Business
